"MIKE THE KNIFE" CARVES UP THE FIELD
Two birdies and Mike is back on form.
"Five'll get you ten that Mikey's back in town!"

Consistency was the key in Saturday's Bobby Darin trophy. With the Bqaxter boys off and firiing on all cylinders, pars galore ensured a high quality contest. A third of the way in and Con was the man to chase, as he edged ahead of handicap with a par and four bogies. However, a dropped shot at the sixth and he was sharing the lead with Gavin and Tony. A terrific put for birdie on seven put Mike ahead by one, but only two shots separated the first seven players. With a par on nine, he took the turn by one, but Dave was yapping at his heels. Five pars were overshadowed by two blobs, whilst Mike's poorest efforts consisted of two on-pointers.

The second half, and Mike started to struggle, dropping four shots on four holes. With Gavin and Con falling away, there was now a two-shot spread between five players. After the fourteenth, it was one shot, but Alan had blobbed. Tony was now sharing the lead, but a blob on the next followed by a fantastic three wood by Mike to within a foot of the hole on 16 was the key moment. A par on seventeen saw Mike four ahead and even with a dropped shot on the last he won by three from Dave. Then, a shot apart, followed Tony, Geoff and Alan. It was a day for memorable shots, mixed with play that one would prefer to forget. Two birdies and one blob for Mike gave him the match, but both Dave and Alan notched up seven pars apiece. Unfortunately, these were blighted by four blobs.

Tom remained at home, nursing his injured leg, but safe in the knowledge that the Stableford is all but won. The main excitement now, is the fight for second place. Al looks good, but Dave and Mike are baying for blood at the moment........"Ya know when that shark bites, with his teeth, babe, scarlet billows start to spread."
