THE JULY MEDAL
MIKE LEAVES NO WORM UNTURNED FOR C.J.
"11.03 hours, they'll hardly be open, besides might look bad if I turn up mid-morning smelling of drink, make it a whiskey" says Mike
"I didn't get where I am today without beating Con by five strokes in the monthly medal! .... Goodbye Mikey!"

Although they were missing Geoff ( Escaped Puma at Chessington Zoo ) and Alan (Fed up with delays, came by bike, slow puncture at Hangar Lane ), the Baxter boys set out to remember the late, great C.J. ( "Absence is better than a cure. Prevention makes the heart grow fonder ") with a special monthly medal. As it turned out, it was "Success City Arizona" for Mike, who hit three pars and a couple of birdies to win by five clear strokes ( "soooper!" ) from Con.

Things looked good for Mike, as he parred the first and took an early lead in his match with Tom. However, with the words of C.J. ringing in his ears ( Don't count your chickens before they spoil the broth!") he stumbled to a hole-losing nine on the next. From then on, it was nip and tuck in their match until Mike hit birdie on eight and polished off his match with another on fifteen. From then on, he pushed for a good stableford score to pull him up the charts, but unfortunately the heavens opened and he blobbed on the last. However, as C.J. would have said "Good news is better than no broth." so he settled for a solid 34 leapfrogging Alan into third place.

The match between Con and Dave followed a similar pattern. Con took the first hole and then the lead changed few times before Con proved the old adage that "The early bird catches the quick brown fox" as he stormed to a four and two victory. In his speech to the Press, he explained "Normally, I avoid cliches like the plague, but on this occasion I do feel a bit like the ugly ducking who prevented the goose from laying the golden egg. However, I didn't get where I am today without knowing that there's a lot of fun getting where I am today!" At this point, Tony was heard to shout :"Grrreeat!" and Tom chipped in with "Sooooper!" Dave was seen wandering off to the car park muttering something about "Blob City Wyoming"
