With the wind blowing hard into the faces of the Baxter Boys, it was always going to be a tough introduction to the Uxbridge course. It looked like Mike and Alan's sneak rounds, earlier in the week, were going to do the the job. Mike hit the lead with a par on one, as Alan blobbed. Mike then seemed to encounter difficulties and Alan hit three pars in a row. However, Dave had also hit a couple in regulation and it soon turned into a two-horse race. Unfortunately, Dave faltered and staggered home with Al showing no mercy. At the end of the round, one could hear the complaint "I could have been a contender Al, instead of a bum, which is what I am!"

The other contenders were struggling, badly. It looked like Mike was going to be the best of the bunch, as he overtook Geoff for third place with six to go. Tom was driving every ball onto the neighbouring fairway and passed the half-way with a mere seven points. Drastic action was needed, so he took to his short irons and suddenly made a charge. His eighteen point second-half edged him level with Dave in second place. Geoff and Tony had a fierce battle to decide who would wake up with the horse's head and who would 'sleep with the fishes'. In the end they tied for last place and were each presented with a concrete waistcoat and a Shergar pillowcase. Mike received a Virgin Rail third-class ticket to Palookaville (one-way).
