With the demands of work, studies and the South of France calling on Fort Baxter's attention, attendance was low. However, there were two contrasting matchplays to entertain the sparse crowds on a muddy Saturday morning. Mike showed some good early round form, as Con struggled to find his. After five holes, Mike was five up and the game was looking all but over. Suddenly, Mike stumbled and Con threw in a couple of pars and drew back three holes in a row. With seven holes to go and only two behind, Con was looking ready to stage the biggest comeback ever seen at Ruislip. However, Mike did well to win on the twelfth and then tie the next three to ensure at least a tie with three to go. A great par on sixteen brought things to a conclusion and Con had to lick his wounds and get ready to battle another day.

The match between Gavin and Geoff was a different affair. Both players showed good form, but Geoff managed to go one ahead at the turn. Nineteen points for Gavin and eighteen for Geoff reflected the standard of play. Gavin slipped on the tenth to go two behind. It was at this point that Geoff's form deserted him and he lost three in a row. From then on, Geoff could do no right, but was still in the hunt and in a position to tie the game on the last. A disastrous seven gifted the game to Gavin who won by two holes.

Perhaps the classiest play came from Dave. Relieved of the pressure of matchplay, he shot a cool six pars and only a double blob finish prevented him from scoring big-time.
