TONY WINS ON COUNTBACK

A windy return to Sunbury, but Tony, Gavin and Geoff made the best of the conditions as they battled it out on the first nine. Four pars by Geoff, should have had him sitting pretty, but a great birdie by Gavin and steady play by Tony had them all level after eight. A brilliant put for par on nine followed by net scores of par-birdie-eagle had Tony romping into a four-shot lead over Geoff with Alan moving alongside Gavin for third. Suddenly, Tony felt the effects of having climbed to a six-under net score and must have experienced oxygen starvation. He was become wobbly and dropping shots all over the place. In true Baxter style, Gavin sensed blood and charged like a baying wolf. He had a net score of four-under for the next six holes and managed to tie the match. Geoff finished third, but Tony took the medall under the countback rule.
