DAVE NERVO AND NOX IT TO 'EM IN THE NAUGHTON AND GOLD!
Double birdie for Dave Keeps up his winning ways right to the end of 2001
The last visit to Brent Valley for 2001 and it was a scratch invitational meet, with Standish Johnny looking to better his last score of 97 and the Baxter boys looking to show a bit of Southern pride. Although the weather was still a bit "Naughton & Gold", the ice had disappeared and the players had a fairer test ahead of them, with all greens back in action for the first time in ages.
After three holes, there was a three-way tie, but Dave's par on the fourth put him in the lead, where he remained till the end. Birdies on the 9th and 12th contributed to a fine score and a well-overdue handicap cut, but his main achievement was in charging to the top of the low-score where he is now evens fave to make the grade before the Easter deadline.
John's tussle with the bunker on one cost him dear, but back-to-back birdies after the turn gave him a good second half and a p.b. of 94. Mike was back in form with some excellent pitching and putting, but waywardness on a few holes left him on 93. Geoff had a more stready game with three pars, a better opening and finishing could have seen him nudging that 90 mark.
Alan made a spirited charge on the second half and bac-to-back pars on the par threes put him in the hunt, as Dave faltered a bit. Two sevens to finish saw him off, but with a respectable 90.

The ice was back on Monday, but the boys had a great return to Perivale, knocking in nine pars and two birdies on the icy temps. A fantastic couple of shots on six gave Dave the chance of birdie, but with the ball hopping around on the ice, he was well satisfied with his rare par.
