CENTER PARCS TROPHY 27/28th NOVEMBER 99
MIKE FIGHTS BACK TO TAKE CENTER PARCS
A horrendous start for Mike left him four over net par after two holes and five shots off Tony, who stormed into the lead with a superb par on the first. Two pars in a row helped Mike to pull back slightly, but after four Dave had leveled the game.
The position remained the same until the big sixth, where Mike fell back a further shot. The nthings started to happen! Pars from Mike and Con meant a three-way tie with Mike two adfrift. Con held fours, whilst Tony dropped one. Dave showed he meant business with two pars, but Mike hit two birdies to level the game. Nine holes and the leaders were two under handicap. Con was level with Tony one behind.
The boys tried their hardest to enjoy their Saturday night, but they couldn't completely forget the importance of the day ahead. Only nine holes and any one of them could be owners of the gleaming Center Parc trophy. A few glasses of champagne seemed to ease the tension. Con relaxed by donning a woman's wig and govong hoola-hoop displays, whilst Tony took his mind of things by donning his Spiderman outfit and scaling a few buildings. Mike and Dave just eyeballed each other over the chicken koorma and sipped their fruit juice with care.
The next morning and old Web-head testified to the power of a night on a window ledge dressed in blue tights. For the second day running, Tony hit a par on the first. Mike also echoed his previous performance, by hitting his ball on to the adjacent fairway.
After the first, Dave had taken the lead one ahead of Mike, who was now only one in front of Con and Tony.
Par on four moved Con up to a three-way tie. Tony was two behind. Another Par meant that after 14 holes of golf Con had at last taken the lead. However, the sixth saw everybody in trouble. With three holes to go, Con and Mike were neck and neck. Each shot a par followed by bogie to take them up to the short last. A poor shot from Con left him shy of the green, as Mike was twelve feet away from the hole. A fantastic chip gave him a chance to par, but his put was six inches short. Mike just missed his birdie, but confidently putted to take it by one.

MEANWHILE ... BACK AT PERIVALE

A small but dedicated band of Club Members arrived at 7.00am for the 7.15am tee but it was still dark. Geoff teed off a test ball to check visibility which turned out to be longer and straighter than his actual tee shot !
The pin on the 2nd was surrounded by water. Steve did an excellent job of clearing the water allowing Geoff to make a par.
It was all square after 2 holes but Alan moved ahead with a par on the 3rd.

At the fourth Steve sank a 25 foot putt and was now 2 shots behind Alan. Steve's putt inspired Geoff to hole a 12 foot putt.

Steve slipped further back after the 5th . Geoff was now only 2 Shots behind Alan after the usually difficult 6th where Steve lost two balls.

After the 7th, Alan was five shots clear of Steve and six clear of Geoff who took 3 off the tee.

At the 8th, Alan started to get nervous because his jinx 9th hole was looming. All recovered from poor tee shots to make a 5

Alan's long drive from the 9th tee went into the rough on the right never to be found, the jinx continues and he finished with a 9. Geoff missed a 3 foot putt and his chance to level his score with Steve.

Overall an enjoyable game in sunshine from the 4th with the scores spoilt by the number of lost balls.

Tees times for Saturday 4th December 7.53 and 8.00
Best behaviour please as Winnie will be playing
