MONTHLY MEDAL 18th September 1999
TOM KEEPS IT IN THE FAMILY!
Only Con can put up a creditable challenge, but this fades away with double sand on the par 3 fifth, as young Tom continues his early season dominance, notching up the third family monthly medal this year.

Hole1: Tom and Con establish themselves as the ones to beat, as they go one ahead of the pack.

Hole2: The leaders go a further one ahead, but Mike has six putts in two holes with his borrowed putter and falls four behind.

Hole3: Neck and neck, as the Maestro and the young contender battle it out and now move three ahead of the pack. Mike one-putts and scores a birdie. "I must have one of these putters!" He cries.

Hole 4: Still all square at the front. Mike, Geoff and Dave battle it out five shots back.

Hole 5: The deadlock is broken. Con goes in the bunker. Five shots later, he is struggling, two off the lead.

Hole 6: The usual drama on the sixth. Tom is now three ahead of Con. Dave is a clear three shots further back, but the rest are all even battling it out for the wooden spoon, eight shots off the lead.

Hole 7: Tom holds his three shots. Dave falters, as Tony and Steve move alongside him in third.

Hole 8: It's the lead by four! Tom is clear, with a hole to go. But now it's Mike and Tony who are battling for the third spot.

Hole 9: Con is on the green in three, but three putts. Mike is on in four and three putts. Six putts chalked up for the magic TaylorMade. "How much is this thing!" cries Mike. "I'll look it up on the Internet. Remember, I could get you one!" Responds Con.

Tom, in spite of a sorry adventue in the sand, which cuts his lead by two, emerges as the winner.Tony and Steve slip back and Dave moves up with Mike to take third spot.

FAIR SAILS THE WIND FOR FRANCE!

The first stage of this year's club championships takes place on foreign soil. Three rounds in two days, with the fourth and final round played back home at Perivale.

Handicaps for France are as follows: Twice your nine-hole handicap plus 4; maximum 36.

Eg: Con = 2 x 8.3 + 4 = 20.6 plays off 21. Mike + 2 x 11.7 + 4 = 27.4 plays off 27
Tony 2 x 15.7 + 4 = 35.4 plays off 35

The handicap is the same for the Perivale leg, but without the 4 stroke addition, therefore Con plays off 17, Mike 23, Tony 31 etc.
