AUTUMN STABLEFORD 11th SEPTEMBER 1999
 MIKE DITCHES HIS WOOD

After weeks of frustration and yet another disastrous pair of drives to start the round, Mike resorted to his five iron and suddenly found enough form to hit his handicap, in spite of three drops along the way.

In spite of some mumbling in the club house along the lines of "Not the Baxter way ...". Club President reminded the pack of the importance of course management. A look of "if only" shot across Geoff's face, as the horrors of the nine stroke swing of the previous week came back to haunt him.

Early days in the race for lowest best-hole total, but Dave and Mike made their claims with excellent pars on the ninth. However, it was Steve who scored his second par in a row on the s.i. 3 fourth who, is the dark horse in this particular competition.
