DAVE SHOWS HE STILL HAS BREATH LEFT
The TXS100 was Anne Summers' most realistic
model so far and a welcome addition to the flat.
All three matches finished with two to play, but each match was a lot tighter than the result would declare. From hole two, Alan was always behind Dave, who was in hot shape. However, he fought hard and managed five pars up to the thirteenth, to stay just one behind. Blunders on the next two, cost him dear, but it was an unlucky sand trap, after a great drive on sixteenth that sealed his fate. A small consolation was that he scored his first blobless round of the year.
Mike and Con struggled in their match, but excellent putting from Mike versus disastrous putting from Con was the difference in their match. One great putt from Con on twelve, gave him a superb par to get within one. Mike hit two good putts on the next two holes, in order to score double bogie and bogie, whilst Con missed chances to draw level. Mike then struggled with terrible chips and putts on the par-five, but saved a point with one last good putt, whilst Con took four to get down from the fring. Another good putt from Mike to par sixteen sealed Con's fate.
Geoff scored just the one blob against Tony's four and with four pars and a birdie on his card, he was always going to be hard to beat. However, Tony was doing enough to stay in the game and be within one after eleven. As usual, Tony's advancing years began to take their toll and he faded from contention towards the end.
The medal was a hard fought contest, with Dave and Geoff swapping the lead and Gavin biding his time, ready to take advantage of any slips. It was Dave who made the big slip on the penultimate hole. With 36 points already in the bag, he scored a massive eight, Geoff scored six and Gavin five. One shot between them and everything to play for. Dave's four was enough to win, whilst Geoff's five slipped him back into third. A fourth medal in a row for Dave and who would bet against him for a fifth?
