- Alan contemplates further victories
With the rest of the guys suffering a miserable start, Alan set off on a blistering round of golf. AFter five holes, his par on the second ensured a handicap-equalling 10 points. Geoff, Tom, Mike and Dave could only manage nine points between them. Alan had hit an average of five shots, the others were well over seven a hole. Mike and Geoff livened things up over the next few, with a couple of pars apiece, but Dave and Tom managed a mere six points each for the first half. By this time Alan had hit another par and a birdie.
With back-to-back threes followed by a par four, Alan had well made up for his disappointing blob on ten. Meanwhile, Tom was storming back and his 21 point second nine restored some pride. Geoff's nineteen point second half gave him a respectable 32 pointer. However, Alan was the real star with a 38 point 86, giving him a 0.6 handicap cut. His only setback was a disastrous six on the par three sixteenth. Wioth the matchplay starting next week, who would bet against him retaining the trophy, which he picked up in the bar later.
