With Tom smarting from last week's collapse and Dave refreshed from a week in the Alps, it was a two-way battle for the March monthly medal. Last week's winner, Mike, scuppered his chances with a 10 on the first and even with a four-point bounce-back on the next, he was always going to struggle in this net-score comp. However, Dave couldn't build on his cool bogie opening and he slipped on the first half, as Gavin holed a couple of pars to draw alongside Tom at the halfway stage.
Dave was the only one to score a point on the tenth, but Gavin's birdie on eleven made things a little more interesting. Over the next couple of holes, the lead swung back and forth between father and son, although Dave was scoring steadily and creeping up ready to pounce on any mistakes. Scoring 26 over the next four holes, Gavin was the one making the mistakes, but it was Mike who had silently moved into contention with a few pars, including one on sixteen. Two holes to play and Tom was three strokes clear of Mike and Gavin with Dave a mere stroke behind. Once again,Mike blew the penultimate hole with three penalty shots scoring him an eight. Gavin was not much better, scoring seven- five to finish, letting Dave sneak into second place with a nice par at the last.
Tom's 31 points was the only change on the season's leaderboard, leap-frogging him ahead of Mike, whose 30 points meant no change. After consulting the diary, it appeared that there is still two weeks left of the season. Still some interesting developments left and plenty of pride at stake!
