- DAVE GETS A GRIP ON WINTER STABLEFORD
- Mixed fortunes for Baxter boys in the rain
- The rain had been heavy all night and the first three ball
of Alan, Dave and Geoff were contemplating an early nine-holer
and a cup of tea at Brenda's. However, guest player Standish
Johnny explained that he hadn't come two hundred miles to be
put off by a bit of southern drizzle! Mike was also keen to avoid
another no result in his match with Tony who saw the rain beeing
more of a barrier to an afternoon of digging the garden than
a morning of matchplay drama.
- With temps on fifteen greens there was not much chance of
any movement n the low score, although Dave (8th) and Mike (3rd)
both managed to par when it counted. Mike put in some solid play
on the outward nine as Tony struggled. With the match won 5 &
4 the wind went out of his sails and he slumped to a miserly
25 points. Dave looked good until the tenth when he started to
throw in the odd poor hole, but managed to earn a respectable
32 points. Alan was level with Mike at the halfway with 16 points,
but maintained his form coming home to tie dave with 32.
- The thirteenth was almost as unluck as the previous week
with six players scoring a massive 17 over par between them.
However, it was the seventeenth which saw the most terrible play:
Guest player Standish Johnny showed trueNorthern grit to make
par with the other five scoring 22 over par!!!
- Dave stays on top of the Stableford comp, leading Alan by
five. Mike leads Dave in the Low-score. In the league Dave has
two points out of three games, but only Alan remains unbeaten
with 1.5 points from two.
