After some good scores at Brent
Valley, the real season started flat. Tony & Alan failed
to make a par between them, Mike failed to break the century
and Steve needed back-to-back birdies to shave his score down
to 107!
The game got off to a tight
start, with Mike and Tony leading by one after three. At the
par three fourth, Mike stumbled to a six as Geoff's par put him
in a four-way tie for the lead. The next two long holes evened
things up. A seven and an eight for Geoff put him alongside µike
and Dave who were one behind Alan, but it was Tony who was taking
command two shots further ahead. By seven there was one point
covering the field, apart from Steve who was seven shots away
and having a nightmare.
The dogleg eighth saw Mike get
a good drive and then suffer major disasters to record a nine
and finish his chances. Dave, Alan and Tony looked to be the
challengers and by the halfway mark Tony was one ahead of Alan
with Dave a further two behind.
An eight on ten for Tony, made
things interesting. Mike's eight on the eleventh saw him go further
behind and after the first of the two par threes Alan was edging
forward three ahead of Tony and thiteen ahead of Steve in last.
The Brent Vally signature hole saw its usual share of lost balls,
Dave hitting the water twice. Four to go and Alan was two ahead
of Tony and Dave. Steve;s good un came over the next two holes
which he covered in five shots.
With two to go, Alan had a comfortable
two over Tony and two more over Dave. However a seven did him
no favours and he had just one shot with a hole remaining. Both
Dave and Tony made this up on the last for a good three-way tie.
In the end, the result went to Stableford
