- Saturday 8th January
- Private Fender Memorial Trophy
-
- BAXTER FIGHTING
SPIRIT RESULTS IN THREE-WAY TIE
- DAVE LEADS BY TWO AT THE
FOURTH AS THE PACK ATTACKS
- With Perivale closed yet
again, it was back to The London Golf Centre for nine holes of
thrills and spills in the thick mud. Four pars on the first hole
set the scene for a titanic battle, as the Baxter boys fought
tooth and nail for the prized "Private Fender Memorial"
- Dave was the only one to
survive the second unscathed and immediately established a two
point lead. Only Geoff seemed to be making a challenge and the
others were at least four behind after four. A slip-up on the
fifthe allowed Mike to nudge alongside., but it was Con's great
par that set the course alight, moving him alongside Geoff a
point off the lead. Steve was still in with a chance two off
the lead.
- The big sixth produced it's
fair share of drama, as Mike bounced off a bridge to clear the
ditch with his second and then walked on water to clear the pond
by inches. He now sat alongside Dave with Con and Geoff one behind.
No-one else had a chance - or so it seemed!
- The easiest hole on the
course and Dave moved clear with a par, whilst the challengers
courted with disaster. Tom quietly took advantage with a steady
two pointer but was still five off the lead with two to go.
- The long par three Mike
Dave and Geoff got their two points, but it was Con and Tom who
managed to gain a point. Dave stood on the last tee with a point
on Geoff, three on Mike and Con and four on Tom. A five and it
was in the bag a six could be but a seven could be dodgy.
- Not only was it a seven,
but Geoff managed a six and Mike a par four. Tom's five was a
net birdie and Con's was a net par. Five players within a point!
